Koolaire KDT0500A Description

The Koolaire KDT-0500A ice machine can produce 515 pounds of ice if the ambient air and incoming water temperatures are ideal. Its AHRI-certified ice production capacity is 400 pounds. Great for nearly any application, full-cube ice will not melt quickly, but it does not cool drinks quickly or take up as much space in glasses as smaller ice types. Water that will turn into ice runs through the white plastic food zone, which has removable parts that must be cleaned frequently. To access this part of the unit, two screws in the door should be removed, as well as the door itself.

Ice is produced when the toggle switch is turned to its "ice" cycle and the water curtain is shut. Air-cooled refrigerant lines cool the evaporator plate as water runs over it. This water freezes in the individual cells to create cubes, and once water flows over the ice thickness float switch, water flow shuts off. The ice's thickness is measured by the harvest switch, which then warms the refrigerant lines and the evaporator plate to release the ice into a bin.

Product Details

  • 515-lb. ice production capacity
  • 400-lb. AHRI-certified ice production capacity
  • 2 screws and the door must be removed for food zone access
  • Food zone is constructed of white plastic, so staff can see when it needs to be cleaned
  • Removable distribution tube, floats, pump, trough, and water shield
  • Finish on the exterior resists smudges and fingerprints
  • Full-cube ice size: 0.875 in. x 0.875 in. x 0.875 in.
  • Uses R410A refrigerant
  • Ice bin or dispenser sold separately
  • Requires an ice deflector when paired with an ice bin but not with a dispenser
  • 5,300 average BTU; 6,100 maximum BTU
  • Required ambient air temperature: 40-110 degrees F
  • Required incoming water temperature: 40-90 degrees F
  • Required incoming water pressure: 20-80 PSI
  • Required top and sides clearance: 8 in.
  • Required rear clearance: 5 in.

How It Works

  • Water curtain must be shut and the toggle switch set to "ice"
  • Water is removed from the trough by the purge cycles
  • Air-cooled refrigerant lines
  • Evaporator is chilled with cool refrigerant lines
  • Cubes are frozen when the water running over the evaporator plate gets cold
  • Water flow is turned off by the ice thickness float switch
  • Harvest float switch is turned on when the ice sheet is a certain thickness
  • Evaporator plate is warmed by refrigerant lines to release the ice
